Often times the subtleties are not directly perceivable. The truth requires us to drop beyond the stories the mind tells. How often does one thought after another follow? Where we chase around ideas and concepts only to find precious minutes, hours, days, weeks even months and years pass by without our full presence? Psychologists have found that many couples return for therapy with the same issues time after time, year after year. It’s the mind with it’s stories and agendas that present a virtual fog of unconsciousness that becomes challenging to see through. Life unfolds much more gracefully when we are present to each moment. When we open to the subtleties, to the textures, to the changes and nuances, something changes. We are receptive and we see, feel, touch and hear things we may have never noticed before. This is because when the mind stills we are far more alive. Art that is created consciously serves to prompt us beneath the chattering mind. Like this painting, if you did not look closely, you might altogether miss the figure within the painting. The subtlety of the gestures, the changing tones, all reflect life and it’s invitation to presence.
